Joining the Crew
I joined my high school student-run news program MBC (Mason Broadcast Crew) in 2025, animating motion graphics.
My first large project was to create the visuals for the 2025 Video Yearbook. The producers chose the theme “The Wii”, so I faithfully recreated the original Wii user interface in Blender and timed original sound effects to create graphics identical to the real experience.
News Graphics
The main program of MBC is its monthly news broadcast. My contribution to the program included motion graphics for various segments.
“Kids in the Hall” was the most popular segment of the broadcast, so I set out to create an unforgettable intro graphic. The video below showcases the entire process behind the graphic.
Mason Sports Radio
MBC also included a sports radio branch named MSR (Mason Sports Radio), which specializes in sports coverage and content. I worked closely with the team to create a new broadcast intro graphic that showcases each of the sports the radio covers. A video showcasing some of the details behind the graphic is coming soon.
MSR hosted an annual award ceremony called the MHS ESPYS to recognize exceptional athletes, and I was lucky to be part of the 10th anniversary of the event. For the event, I created graphics that announced 25 nominees across 5 award categories. You can watch the full event here.
2026 Video Yearbook
The largest project I ever worked on for MBC, and the largest animated project I’ve ever created, was the graphics for the 2026 Video Yearbook. I was given complete creative freedom to create the transitional graphics between the main sections of the yearbook.
Since it was my final project, I decided to take all the things I had learned from animating various MBC graphics and combine them all together into something beyond my comfort zone. This included techniques such as photogrammetry, building reconstructions, and fluid simulations.
To take everything a step further, the entire thing was rendered in Cycles (a physically accurate production render engine that takes longer to render). The final video took 50 hours to render. You can watch the final video.
